Halloween Party Food with a Mexican Twist!

It’s #SpookySeason, and if you’re hosting a Halloween party, you need some spooky snacks and appetizers for your guests to munch on while they admire each other’s costumes. Although Halloween is not as big a deal in Mexico (they celebrate the Day of the Dead on November 2nd instead), that doesn’t mean you can’t have some Mexican food at your party! With its bold flavors and bright colors, Mexican food is perfect for your Halloween party.

Here are two easy-to-make spooky snacks to add some Mexican food to your party spread!

Spiderweb Nacho Spread

Your guests will get a kick out of this Halowen twist on layer dip, and they’ll enjoy the Mexican flavors. On a round serving plate, spread a layer of refried beans, leaving 2-4 inches around the edge of the plate. For some extra flair, arrange tomato slices around the edge to make a border. For your next layer, drain the excess liquid from some salsa and spread it on top of the bean layer, leaving some of the beans showing to create a tiered effect. Next, sprinkle some shredded on top of the salsa. For your final layer, spread some guacamole on top of the salsa and cheese, leaving a bit of the salsa visible around the edges. For the spiderweb, put some sour cream in a plastic sandwich bag. Snip the corner off and pipe a spiderweb across the top. Serve with tortilla chips, and enjoy!

Tortilla Hands and Salsa

This one is possibly our favorite. All you need is orange and green tortillas, a hand-shaped cookie cutter, some oil, and a baking sheet. Cut as many hands as you can from the tortilla with the cookie cutter, then brush the hands with oil and spread them in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake the hands in the oven at 375º for 10 minutes, then turn them over and bake for another 5 minutes. Let them cool completely on a wire rack, and then serve them with your favorite salsa! You can also cut them into other shapes; just use whatever Halloween-themed cookie cutters you have.
